Spring '09 Makeup Trends

Taken right from the runway, these Spring 2009 trends are a great way to mix up your usual beauty routine.

TREND: Heavy Liner
Skip the traditional eyeliner look and go for something heavier. Heavy liner was popular at
Lanvin, Stella McCartney and Narcisco Rodriguez shows. Line the eyes heavily with a black liner, and go with a natural look for the cheeks and lips. For a good long-lasting liner that goes on smooth, try MAC Cosmetics Powerpoint Eye Pencil in Engraved ($17 at MAC Cosmetics stores and MAC counters at The Bay). For a good liquid liner option, try CoverGirl LineExact in Very Black ($6.99 at drugstores).

TREND: Lilac Eyes
Soft and romantic is the look this shade provides. It's back in this season and cosmetics companies are releasing li
nes of pretty pastels for this reason! Pair a lilac eye with some fresh pink cheeks to complete the look. To get this look, try NARS Single Eyeshadow in Party Monster ($22 at Sephora), Make Up Forever Eyeshadow in Lilac Matte ($20 at select Shoppers Drug Mart stores).

TREND: Red Lips
Red lips in all different shades and formulas are making a bold comeback this spring. Red lips were popular at Michael Kors (first time he used red lips on his models in 27 years!!) and Nina Ricci shows. The color instantly lifts your complexion. To pull off the sexy look, keep the rest of your face simple. Some reds to try this spring: Lanc

me Color Design Lip in Retro Rouge Shimmer ($31 at Shoppers Drug Mart and The Bay), Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Love That Red ($6.99 at drugstores), and MAC Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Russian Red ($16.50 at MAC Cosmetics stores or MAC counters at The Bay).

TREND: Glowing Skin
A look that was popular at Stella McCartney and Vivienne Tam, highlighted cheeks and lids made models look like goddesses. For flawless looking skin, highlight cheekbones upward and dust just a little bit on the chin, nose and forehead. Try Smashbox Muse Hybrid 2-in-1 Luminating Primer ($34 at Shoppers Drug Mart stores, Sephora and Smashbox.com) or MAC Cosmetics Mineralized Skin Finish in Soft and Gentle ($30 at MAC Cosmetics stores and MAC counters at The Bay).

TREND: Electric Makeup
Another trend hitting the runways this spring is
bright teal. Popular at Gucci shows, it instantly brightens up the face. To achieve this look, layer as much or as little as you want: go with cream or powder shadows, black mascara and nude lips. Try CoverGirl Eye Enhancers in Turquoise Tempest ($7.99 at Shoppers Drug Mart) or for a cream option, try L'Oreal HIP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner in Teal ($13 at drugstores). Too scared to go all out with the shadow? Urban Decay makes two nice liners in teal shades: Electric and Flipside ($16 at Sephora).
